It's an old adage that the "personal is political." But in these times of environmental degradation and increasing political polarization, the conflicts in our bodies and our own lives take on new urgency as they play out in larger and larger arenas. CounterPULSE's Winter 2008 Artists in Residence begin with intensely personal stories, weaving outwards to address issues with global relevance. Choreographer Brittany Brown Ceres explores how emotions are stored in our bodies and their implications in our actions, while experimental theater director Maya Gurantz focuses on the lives of Silicon Valley workers as they challenge the mythology of a "Clean" Silicon Valley. Together, these artists entwine the personal and political in engaging and unexpected ways.
