In the past, corporate responsibility meant giving money to local charities, or more recently, publishing glossy annual reports on corporate social responsibility initiatives. With the advent of social media, the bar has been raised. Now consumers and other stakeholders are speaking online about a variety of health, environmental and energy issues that affect their lives and their communities. Corporations need to use social media to listen and engage in these conversations that impact corporate reputation and shareholder value. Join us for a panel discussion on how companies are using the Internet and social media to interact with their constituencies and build stronger relationships.

Our panelists will include:

Myles Bristowe, President, Boston Chapter, American Marketing Association
Myles, founder of VividContext , a Web site and online community design agency, has designed hundreds of corporate Web sites and Web strategies for leading brands in the health care, fitness and sports, financial services, technology, consumer products and manufacturing industries. Previously, Myles served as Creative Director at TreeFrog Productions, a Website design and development firm he co-founded in 1998. In 2003, Myles merged his interests from TreeFrog into a leading Website Design Agency in Newton, MA where he served as Creative Director and President. Some clients in Myles' interface design portfolio include: Akamai, Allmerica Financial, Curis, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Greg Norman, Intellicare, Kryptonite Lock Company, Lifeline Systems, Nike | Bauer, Pastene, Phase Forward, PHT Corp, Ralph Lauren Footwear, Reebok, Rockport, Simplex, Tyssen Elevator, Visiting Nurse Association of America, and WebDental.

Jay Welz, Assistant Director, Online Marketing, Jimmy Fund / Dana Farber Cancer Institute
Jay also serves as director of new media and webmaster for Project Bread. As the state’s leading anti-hunger organization, Project Bread is dedicated to alleviating, preventing, and ultimately ending hunger in Massachusetts. Learn more about our mission. Through The Walk for Hunger, the oldest continual pledge walk in the country, Project Bread provides millions of dollars each year in privately donated funds to more than 400 emergency food programs in 126 communities statewide.

Peter Prodromou, Executive Vice President, the Racepoint Group
Peter Prodromou is the head of Racepoint Group's corporate practice. For two decades, Peter has worked with leading corporations to develop and implement communications strategies aimed at a range of constituents. For clients such as Shearson Lehman Brothers, Red Hat, Akamai and Lexmark, he has created dialogues with customers, investors, employees and local communities to support business, policy and regulatory objectives and boost shareholder confidence. Peter has extensive experience working with governments of developing nations. His experience includes working with the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Libya to positively impact global public perception and support negotiating positions with key allies, including the U.S. government. Peter has deep experience working with legislators and local community activists around a host of initiatives. He led the public relations efforts on behalf of the construction of a new convention center in Boston’s Seaport District and also worked closely with leading government officials in the State of Maine around major urban renewal projects. He has helped the U.S. Council on Competitiveness publicize its agenda and support the goals of its membership.

This event will take place in conjunction with the New Marketing Summit, taking place at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. (A VERY cool venue!)

UPDATED SCHEDULE INFORMATION
The New Marketing Summit has graciously opened up their closing keynote session to Social Media Club members who can't make it down for the whole summit, so if you're not signed up for the Summit, you're welcome to join Summit attendees for Cynthia Gordon's closing keynote on the "New Media Rollercoaster," describing how she used social media and word of mouth techniques to launch the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park for Universal Orlando. The informal networking will start at 5pm, where we will have the opportunity to get a debrief from New Marketing Summit organizers on some of the key learnings of the event. The formal program featuring Peter Prodromou, Jay Welz and Myles Bristowe will begin at 6pm. You're welcome to show up for any or all of these, but please let us know ahead of time if you can make the keynote and tour.

Social Media Club Boston events are a little different than other panel events. We begin with a half hour of networking, where food and drink are usually served. The panel lasts about an hour, and is followed by 30-45 minutes of break-out sessions, where you have the opportunity to meet in a smaller group with the panelist of your choice. At each breakout session, recorders are nominated, who at the end of the program recap for the whole group some key takeaways from each breakout session. This makes for a more interactive--and hopefully entertaining--program.

Please tag all blogs, podcasts, vlogs, and photos of this event with the keywords smcboston and socialmediaclub.
