As part of its holiday menu, the Coolidge Corner Theatre presents Danish director Gabriel Axel’s delectable, Academy Award-winning film Babette’s Feast. Set in a remote Danish fishing village in the late 19th century, this quiet treasure tells the story of two elderly, pious Danish sisters and the French political refugee they engage as housekeeper and cook. Its climactic scenes, in which a sumptuous feast is prepared and consumed, are a mouthwatering delight.
Before the film, food scientist Guy Crosby explores how we experience taste. Dr Crosby, who works with Cook's Illustrated magazine and the popular PBS series America's Test Kitchen, is associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Food Science at Framingham State College and adjunct associate professor of nutrition at Harvard University’s School of Public Health.
