A collaboration with the Studio Museum in Harlem (SMH) and their Kerry James Marshall exhibition, One True Thing: Meditations on Black Aesthetics, which will be on view at SMH through the run of the Bearden show. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., W.E.B. Du Bois Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University, and Thelma Golden, SMH Deputy Director for Exhibitions and Programs/Chief Curator, tackle key debates in the history of black aesthetics - and examine the legacy of these debates in and for contemporary art-making.
