High Desert Gallery is excited to announce the first in a series of guest artists to our gallery, Karin Richardson.
In the dramatic landscape of the Oregon Coast, there is a conversation between the elements, forces, and rhythms of nature. This is where you will find Karin Richardson, a prolific glass artist. The experience of this conversation relates to that which simply is and remains. Karin has a compelling desire to explore, know and embody this experience as completely and deeply as possible. The sculptural elements of wood, water, wind, and sand, she uses as her inspiration. Karin work evolves from a blend of architecture, archaeology, and anthropology through her use of a wide range of materials and media.
Fire, both in metaphorical and transformational forms, is a dynamic integrating force. The totemic, ancient markings, and remains appear in Karin's work as repeating forms of remembrance. A need to acknowledge, honor, and remember is present throughout all of her work. Karin describes her creative process as more interested in revealing a presence than creating one. The unexpected and unimagined propels her work and gives direction to realizing her conversation of the elements - a voice, a presence.
Karin Richardson studied at the Pilchuck Glass School, Pratt Fine Arts Center and the University of Oslo, Norway. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections such as George & Dorothy Saxe and Chase Manhattan Bank.
