This exhibition showcases rare, historically important works that illustrate this visual exchange drawn from Chinese paintings. landscape by the Japanese monk-painter Shugetsu (c 1427-c 1520), who traveled to China as a government ambassador. It is one of the Academy's rarest paintings and has not been on view in more than a decade. Another highlight is a superb landscape by Okura Ryuzan that is a promised gift from noted Seattle collector Griffith Way.
