CONTEXT, Houston's one-of-a-kind chamber ensemble presents a concert devoted to the solo piano, with two sublime masterworks from the early Romantic era, performed on the kind of piano that first played them.
Beethoven's magisterial Sonata in C Minor, composed a few years before his death, is the last of his series of 32 piano sonatas. Schumann's Kreisleriana is a set of eight fantasies that depict the extremes of the young Romantic's imagination--from blazing gallentry, to tender intimacy, to demonic energy--inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann's spectral stories. Brian Connelly performs on CONTEXT's splendid 1825 piano built by Conrad Graf, who built pianos for Beethoven and Schumann!
