CONTEXT Concert October 26, 2008

October 6, 2008 – CONTEXT, a Houston-based chamber-music ensemble, will be featuring the Sonatas of Maurice Ravel in its upcoming concert.

The concert will feature internationally known musicians, Sergiu Luca – violin, Brian Connelly – piano, Timothy Jones –bass-baritone, and Michael Kannen – cello. The program will showcase compositions of Maurice Ravel evoking American jazz and blues with the elegance of his own late avant-garde style. Performed with the Sonata for Violin and Cello and the Sonata for Violin and Piano will be his last composition, the Three Songs of Don Quixote for Bass-Baritone and Piano.

This season, CONTEXT will dedicate each of its concerts to a specific composer with a focus on a particular genre or form. The pieces will bring you back in time to the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries as the ensemble showcases the range of repertoire, performance styles and instruments used in these time periods.

New this season, CONTEXT will offer a limited number of free student tickets at each performance, based on availability the day of the performance. Additional student tickets will continue to be available at a cost of $15.
