This new exhibition explores the emerging field of Design Anthropology and the various ways people use things to construct identities. The opening reception for the exhibit will be from 5-8 PM on Friday, November 21 in Wayne State University's Museum of Anthropology located in Old Main. WSU faculty and students from the Department of Anthropology, the Industrial Design program in the Department of Art and Art History, and the Institute for Information, Technology & Culture have teamed up to create the show. In it, three specific brand identities are highlighted: Starbucks, Harley-Davidson, and Adidas. While people choose particular products to make statements about themselves, products are designed to choose particular kinds of people as well. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
