The Constitution Project, in cooperation with the Brennan Center for Justice, will host a panel discussion from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2007, to discuss the legal and policy implications of denying habeas corpus rights to the detainees at Guantanamo Bay, as well as the possibilities for restoring those rights. The panelists will include Jonathan Hafetz, counsel to several detainees currently held by the United States; Lieutenant Commander William C. Kuebler, of the United State Marine Corps and defense counsel in the Office of Military Commissions; William H. Taft, IV, former legal advisor at the State Department under President George W. Bush; and the Honorable Patricia Wald, former Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The panel will take place in the Edward R. Murrow Room at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW) and will include a complimentary light lunch. This event is free of charge and is open to the public.
