'Constellations' of paintings from the MCA Collection explores different approaches to painting, from the 1940s to the present, that focus on how painting communicates ideas about life and art. The groupings range from abstract to figurative; from Surrealism to emerging artists; with content that represents a myriad of subjects that highlight strengths in the MCA's collection. Approximately 75 of the most important artists of the last 60 years are featured including Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Rene Magritte, Chuck Close, Josef Albers, Francis Bacon, Jean Dubuffet, Franz Kline, Sherrie Levine, Sigmar Polke, Rebecca Morris, Roberto Matta, Peter Halley, and Richard Prince. Featured Chicago artists include Kerry James Marshall, Judy Ledgerwood, Scott Reeder, Marie Krane Bergman, and Vera Klement.
