Constantine’s Sword is a documentary about religious intolerance that is as gripping as a detective story or personal journey. The film follows National Book Award–winning writer James Carroll, a former Catholic priest, as he confronts his past and uncovers the roots of religiously inspired violence and war.
It focuses on Christian anti-Semitism as the model for all religious hatred and exposing the cross as a symbol of a long history of violence against Jews (and, more recently, Muslims). Constantine’s Sword brings the history of religious intolerance to life, tracing it as a source of the fanaticism threatening the world today. (95 mins., 35mm)
