THIS DAY-LONG WORKSHOP IS DESIGNED FOR SCHOOL TEAMS CONSISTING OF AN ADMINISTRATOR, TEACHERS, AND A COMMUNITY PARTNER. INDIVIDUAL EDUCATORS ARE ALSO MORE THAN WELCOME. AFTER SOME OPENING REMARKS, THE DAY WILL CONSIST OF THREE BREAK-OUT SESSIONS OF PRESENTATIONS BY FORMAL AND NON-FORMAL EDUCATORS WHO INCORPORATE THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY OR PLACE INTO STUDENTS’ LEARNING EXPERIENCES. TOPICS SCHEDULED SO FAR WILL INCLUDE:
• Working with students in field settings
• What non-profit environmental education organizations like Oregon Trout, Jackson Bottom, and Friends of Tryon Creek can offer teachers
• Uncovering local and regional literature
• The in’s and out’s of school gardening
• Collaborating with local agencies
• Partnering with the community in Tillamook
• Place-based educational opportunities at the elementary school
• Place-based education in secondary schools
