Context:

The criticality & efficacy of Information and Communication Technologies in facilitating and accelerating the process of reducing poverty across the globe is continuously growing. It has become a reality that without the usage of ICTs, a society will fall behind in the path of development. Much development work has been channeled into ICT projects and the development of ICT-enabled enterprises which are an effective component for ICT-based and enabled enterprises for women.

Governments, Civil Society, Development Professionals and other stakeholders alike, are realizing that development has direct impact with effective use of ICT. Several ICT initiatives have already been established and ICT is being used not only for educational development, policy advocacy, and local governance and in many more areas but have facilitated employment, income and skill generation in enterprises worldwide. However, the benefits have rarely been accessible by the poorest groups in society and the two day workshop will contribute to help increase awareness and integration of the number of sustainable ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises run by groups of women in developing countries to benefit local communities.

This is for a focused ICTs for Women initiative of a group of organizations to further strengthen organizations capacities through utilization of ICTs for Women, while also benefiting others at large in the process of knowledge sharing.



Objectives:

* To create more awareness about How To use of ICTs amongst women and the basic operational character of the women's ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises
* Understanding the need for "women's ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises and how it contributes for community development"
* To understand the strategies to be adopted by women for the ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises to help ensure sustainability and growth.
* To understand why "women's ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises" are investments for donors.
* To understand what "women's ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises" are being delivered by women.
* Good practice & guidance on the business and gender aspects of "ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises for women"
* Clear guidance on how best to support project life cycle "ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises for women".
* To provide possible solutions for the challenges faced by Women in ICT Enabled and ICT-Based Enterprise.

· Dr.Anupama Saxena, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Political Science Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur.

Dr Anupama Saxena is currently Associate Professor and Head, Department of Political Science Guru Ghasidas University Bilaspur. She is also the in-charge Director of first women's studies and development centre of Chhattisgarh state. She is actively engaged in research, extension and advocacy work related to women. She has organized/directed a number of training workshops, conferences and seminars. A keen observer of the gender dimension of emerging information society and has published/presented a number of research papers at national and international level.

Recent activities include participation by invitation in the inaugural meeting of UNO's task force on ICTs for poverty alleviation in Malaysia, invited presentation in the International colloquium on " Women in Engineering and Technology Education and Employment" at Tunis, organized by World Federation of Engineering Organizations , participation in a workshop for Phase Two of Gender Evaluation Methodology for ICT 4 D projects in Malaysia and completion of an UNDP sponsored project on "Status of Women with Disability in Chhattisgarh". She is a trained GEM (Gender Evaluation Methodology for ICT 4 D project) practitioner and is currently engaged in Gender Evaluation of E gram Suraj scheme of Chhattisgarh.

· Prof. Vijendrakumar Narendraprasad Shukla, Professor, University School of Information Technolog

Prof. Vijendrakumar Narendraprasad Shukla is Director and heads Multilingual Software Research and Development Lab at CDAC Noida since last 11 years. He has served as Assistant Professor / Lecturer in various academic institutions linked with University of Pune, Marathwada University, University of Bombay and I.I.T.Roorkee. He is a member of various professional bodies like IETE, IEEE, ISTE.

He is Manager W3C India office. He is also working as a Convener of the National Committee on Technology Development in Indian Languages (TDIL) set up by the Department of Information Technology, Government of India.

He was conferred the 1st IETE-Brig M L Anand Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of I.T. His teaching and research subjects include Data Mining, Formal Computing, Software Engineering, Object Oriented Software Engineering, Multilingual Computing, Geomatics, e-governance & Open Source Technology.



· Ms.Geeta Malhotra, Head - ICT Advocacy, Grassroots Communications & Capacity Building

Ms Geeta Malhotra has been working with One World for the last two-and-a-half years and is a key member of the OWSA Management Team since April 2006. As Head - ICT Advocacy, Grassroots Communications & Capacity Building, Geeta leads all programmes related to promoting and using ICTs for localising MDGs at the grassroots level and advocating the related issues at the policy level

The programmes are designed and implemented across South Asia based on multi-stakeholder partnerships. She brings in 23 years of experience in research, advocacy and communications in health and development issues. Geeta has a double PG in Sociology and Population Studies. She is currently pursuing Phd in Women's Empowerment vis-a-vis RCH.
