Muslim students at Carleton College and St. Olaf College will co-sponsor an conference titled ?Our Faith As We See It? from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at St. Olaf?s Buntrock Commons. The event is free and open to the public.

During the conference, students from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds will discuss their experiences growing up Muslim in the United States. Complementing these personal experiences will be sessions with Islamic scholars, writers and leaders who will talk about their views of Islam in the modern world.

In the midst of all the media attention, academic debate, and public discussion on the subject of Islam in today?s world, the voice of the average Muslim has become lost in the crowd. The expansion of the Muslim community in the United States has created an increasing urgency to sort through this confusion to find out the true nature of the Muslim community, as well as understanding Muslims as individual members of a complex and vibrant community. With these pressing needs, Muslims believe they must share their experiences of being both Muslim and American.
