Concert: Lawrence Archbold September 25, 2005

Lawrence Archbold, professor of music and the Enid and Henry Woodward College Organist, will present the 14th recital in his continuing series ?Exploring Organ Music? at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, in the Carleton College Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The organ recital, titled ?Organ Music of Holland and Germany: From Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck to Johann Sebastian Bach? will survey Dutch and German music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Composers include Sweelinck, Scheidt, Tunder, Buxtehude, Bruhns, Hanff, Krieger and Johann Sebastian Bach. The featured work is Bach?s largest chorale partita. Previous concerts have included works by 20th century composers and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Archbold received his A.B., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He has published a book titled ?Style and Structure in the Praeludia of Dietrich Buxtehude,? written numerous articles on German baroque and French romantic organ music, performed more than 100 organ recitals and currently is editing a companion volume to his 1997 book, ?French Organ Music from the Revolution to Franck and Widor.?
