Ellen Pyle was one of a small number of women illustrators who created covers for the Curtis Publishing Company's Saturday Evening Post in the early 20th century. Joyce Schiller, Curator of American Art at the Delaware Art Museum, talks about the work of this pioneering artist, and argues that while many of the Post cover artists produced humorous vignettes, Pyle’s family-oriented covers grounded the Saturday Evening Post with a pointed reminder that, as Americans, our core value is family first.
