Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas (b. 1953) is an experimenter with sound. His extraordinary approach to sonority creates beautiful and opalescent soundscapes as he explores micro-intervals and pure overtones in his music. In 'Vain', his 75-minute tour-de-force for 24 players, has never been performed in the United States. The work is played mostly in the dark; the performers play mainly from memory.
