community placemaking project,daily acts tour,city repair June 11, 2006

Just for the fun of it all, this day is lovingly offered to you FREE! daily acts partners with Village Renaissance, New College, and The Leadership Institute for Ecology and Economy to create the first placemaking project in Sonoma County. This concept of building community while creating people friendly and shared places is inspired by the work of City Repair in Portland, Oregon, where it has become a hugely successful effort, now being replicated around the country.

So join Joe Kennedy, architect, natural builder, Director of Village Renaissance and coordinator of the Sonoma County Placemaking Project for a day of hands on cob (earthen) building. Get your hands dirty and help build a bench and garden in the Santa Rosa Junior College neighborhood. Check the daily acts website for exact location at www.daily-acts.org

Guest appearances throughout the day include spoken word by Trathen Heckman, co-founder of daily acts and producer of the award winning ripples journal; an excquisite tiny home slide show by Jay Shafer, founder of the Tumbleweed Tiny Houses Company (these abodes are SERIOUSLY teeny); indigenous natural building styles presented by Marty Falkenstien, daily acts Sustainability Tour director and past Director of Education at the Marin Museum of the American Indian.

We will be joining local residents and neighborhood leaders to spark this first of many projects that will make neighborhoods more livable, convivial and connected. Attend! Revel in the community building and start one in your neighborhood!!
