Community Art Exhibit December 8, 2006

An exhibit of Community Art by thirty regional artists now on display at the Witter Gallery in Storm Lake. The reception for this celebration of art is being held on December 12, 2006 from 7pm to 8pm.. A mixture of paintings, sculpture, photography and ceramics will be on display until December 28, 2006.

Dan Ruf has two of his most impressive photographic works on display in the exhibit. Most of Ruf’s images to date result from traveling the gravel roads around his home in Northwest Iowa near the town of Melvin.

Ruf’s recent one-man show at the CR Gallery in Milford ended in late November, so this is a chance to view two of his more outstanding photographs if you missed the show in Milford. His images have a sense of drama and demonstrate another way of seeing, capturing, and re-presenting the rural Iowa landscape. His “Country Road” - panorama- measures 44 ½ “x 17 ¾” and is absolutely breathtaking.

Another well-known local photographer, Judy Hemphill, also has two photographs featured in the exhibit. Hemphill’s commercial client list includes the Iowa Department of Economic Development, Corn Belt Electric Cooperative, and the Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative. Her fine art images have been included in shows at Spencer's Arts on Grand, and the Iowa State Fair.

Fostoria, Iowa, resident Amelia Painter has two Iowa sunset photographs in the exhibit. Alive with dramatic color as the sun sets on Northwest Iowa, the two fine art images were captured in Spencer and Fostoria within the last 60 days.

Sue Biederman, a degreed graphic designer/illustrator/photographer/fine artist /muralist has two pieces of her work in the exhibit. Biederman does fine art work in a variety of mediums such as watercolor, pastel, pen & ink, oil, etc. Biederman is the founder of Northwest Iowa's Artisans Road Trip, and a supporter of the Arts and culture of Clay and Dickinson counties.
