An Historical Exhibit of US-Japan Relations
The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco presents "An Historical Exhibit of US-Japan Relations: Commodore Perry's Black Ships and the 150th Anniversary of US-Japan Relations." The exhibit will be held in the Thematic Gallery at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco from November 4th (Mon.) and will continue for four months. This exhibit is co-sponsored by the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California and the Japan Society of Northern California.
Among the exhibits that will be on display will be a portion of the Japan Society of Northern California?s Black Ship Scrolls Collection depicting scenes of the arrival of Commodore Perry as rendered by local Japanese artists who were present, the entire collection of the Asian Art Museum?s Yokohama Wood Block prints describing Yokohama treaty port life at the beginning of the Meiji period and a collection of rare prints, photos and artifacts related to the famous voyage of the ?Kanrin Maru? which brought the first Japanese embassy to the United States in 1860
