A band before it's time, Commander Cody & Band can be seen as a percursor to the Austin music scene of the '80's. The band's first four classic albums laid the groundwork for a whole wing of retro-revisionists in country-rock. Cody's crew practices a loose-jointed, rollicking brand of bar-room boogie woogie that sounds like it's been steeped in beer fumes in front of rowdy crows ready to dance. They scored a Top 10 hit ("Hot Rod Lincoln") off their debut album.
Commander Cody & Band have a style that is a mixture of country music, rockabilly, and blues with a foundation of boogie-woogie piano. They are legendary for marathon live shows. Acoustic guitarist Jeff Sherman opens the show.
