COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, SUMMER 2009”

Washington, D.C. Film Society’s “COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT, Summer 2009” highlights the blockbuster season’s offerings. Catch previews of summer’s hits-to-be at Landmark’s E Street Cinema (E Street between 10th & 11th St.,
N.W.). It all starts at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

Trade tidbits about the film studios’ plans with local film critics, Joe Barber and Bill Henry, as they relate stories of how the studios hope to entertain the summer masses. Back by popular demand, attendees can vote on the films they gotta see (or wanna avoid); we’ll pass this information on to the studios. Summertime is the studios’ Black Friday season. Which will make you spend your hard-earned dollars and stand in line?
Some of the trailers that we hope to show may include: Tom Hanks returns in The DaVinci Code “pre-quel” Angels & Demons; Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Weisz combine in a tale of worldly swindlers, The Brothers Bloom. Sacha Baron Cohen in Bruno, Departures, last year’s Oscar-winning foreign film. Maybe Judd Apatow’s latest offering with Adam Sandler as a terminally-ill comedian with Seth Rogan as his sidekick in Funny People. Here’s looking at Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams as her wanna-be in Julie & Julia. Summer demands scary prehistoric monsters and Hollywood won’t disappoint this summer with Will Farrell in Land of the Lost. Ben Stiller returns in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian with Robin Williams, so you know that hijinks will ensue. How about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Or Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as Melvin Purvis in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies. Denzel Washington returns to the big screen in the remake of Taking of the Pelham 1 2 3. How about another Taking Woodstock, the true story behind Woodstock? Or Christian Bale in the new Terminator: Salvation. Finally, a summer romance: The Time Traveler’s Wife. Other secret trailers will entice you!
For only $8, you get lots of movie promotional items, movie posters, raffles of movie tickets and DVDs as well as the trailers! This twice-annual event is unique to D.C.
