Now in its 4th year, this monthly (every 2nd Monday of the month) multicultural comedy show features the best of Bay Area comedians and beyond. It takes place at El Rio, where SF comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 23 years ago.
The February 11th show features Sammy Obeid, Yayne Abeba, Nathan Habib, Rachel Gill, and Lisa Geduldig
Sammy Obeid is Lebanese American and born in Oakland. He applies his UC Berkeley double major in Business and Mathematics to bringing laughter to the nation. Recently appearing on NBC's America's Got Talent, advancing to the Las Vegas round, Sammy's style has been described as intelligent, inspiring, and a youthful perspective that reaches all ages. Sammy discusses hip social trends in a critical yet hilarious way, making him a favorite at colleges. As the youngest member both of the national tours, CoExist Comedy and the Axis of Evil New Generation, Sammy has worked with Robin Williams, Russell Peters, Dana Carvey and more. He is also the founder of his own comedy enterprise, KO Comedy, as well as the first comedian to ever appear on the Food Network telling jokes. **February 11th marks Day 779 of Sammy's non-stop performing. He is shooting for performing 1,001 nights in a row and hasn't missed a day since Christmas 2010.
Yayne Abeba is a native San Franciscan of Ethiopian descent. She recently starred in her own one-hour TV special "Africa Laughs with Yayne Abeba" on the Africa Channel, which broadcasts throughout the US, the UK, and the Carribean. Yayne began studying acting at the Jean Shelton Actor's Lab in 1995 and was bitten by the comedy bug four years later at The Luggage Store. Realizing that there was no cure, she accepted her fate and has since been touted as one of San Francisco's up and coming comedians. Her style is fresh, innovative, cutting edge and just damn funny. She won The 2002 Russian River Comedy Competition and competed in several SF International Comedy Competitions as well as the Seattle Comedy Competition.
Nathan Habib is one of the youngest comics in the business. His comedy is intelligent and performed with an awkwardly confident attitude. Born in Belgium and raised in Palo Alto, Nathan was brought up in a Jewish Israeli household with a Latvian mother, an Italian raised dad, giving him plenty of diversity and experience to talk about. Just having graduated from UC Santa Cruz, Nathan has been doing comedy since his freshman year of high school. He has performed all over the Bay Area with comics such as Arj Barker, Rich Vos, and Robert Duchaine and has recently begun performing in LA.
Rachel Gill is a San Francisco based comedian who lives in the Castro. While wasting time between queens and cocktails, she spreads sarcasm through stand up comedy and storytelling. Rachel got her comedy start at the San Francisco Comedy College, where 10's of people got drunk beforehand and paid very little money to see her "stand up comedy." She then moved on to StageWerx's "Previously Secret Information" show where 20's of people got less drunk and paid a bit more to see her tell the story of "Golf-A Pain in the Ass." She has since moved on to sold out shows.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (which just celebrated its 20th anniversary); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion; and Comedy Returns to El Rio.
