Because Karhu means ‘bear’ in Finnish, The Karhu 5K, a division of the Chicago Half Marathon, invites racers to try and “Beat the Karhu Bear” on Sunday, September 11th. The first 10 runners to cross the finish line before the Karhu costumed bear receive a FREE pair of Karhu running shoes of their choice. All other runners finishing in front of the bear will receive an “I Beat the Bear” running shirt.
The Karhu 5K will share the start and finish lines of the Chicago Half Marathon, beginning and ending in Jackson Park. The Chicago Half Marathon is the fifth largest half marathon in the United States and the 21st largest road race in the country. The course is USATF certified and the scenery cannot be beat. Running along the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan with a view of the Chicago skyline, participants will receive a custom finisher’s medal and technical t-shirt, along with access to the post-race party.
