April 19 "Come Back to Old Florida" (archeology, pre-history and history). In cooperation with the Florida Public Archeology Network, Flamingo Gardens & Wildlife Sanctuary invites you to Come Back to Old Florida on Saturday, April 19 from 10 am to 4 pm to learn about the archeology, pre-history and recorded history of Flamingo Groves/Gardens and the surrounding area including the Everglades. "So you want to be an archeologist?" An information booth for adults and children provides instruction on local archeology opportunities and ways to become involved. Features include a talk for adults at 2 pm on "The Prehistory of Florida" focusing on the southeast and the Everglades. Children will especially enjoy the activities in the Meeting Room at 1 and 3 pm. They will learn "Artifact Analysis," how archeologists use modern, historic and prehistoric artifacts to tell stories, and "Build a Boat" as they test their skills as an underwater archeologist "reconstructing" a boat from common household items. Tour historic 1930s Wray Home and the grounds to see archive photos of Flamingo Groves and Flamingo Gardens through the years. There is also a display of early artifacts discovered at Flamingo Gardens in the Gallery building. Reduced admission is $5 OFF $17 for ages 12 and up, $3 OFF $8.50 children 4-11, under age 4 free, and includes the event as well as all garden and native wildlife exhibits.
