This course is a historical investigation into an extraordinary struggle for strategic world domination between the worlds two great superpowers, the USA and USSR. It will bring an insight of major events that shaped the world from Guatemala to Vietnam. The discussion focuses on clash of political systems and values, ideological incompatibilities, and misperceptions that stimulated the third biggest conflict of the century. The lessons drawn from this forty-five-year drama remain important because they affect how leaders are likely to manage new great-power rivalries in the twenty-first century.
