There will be a church service in St. Peters Church, North Hill. The service will be preceded by a parade of standards representing all the veterans, ex-services and auxiliary associations. The parade will be followed by a civic procession led by the town sergeant bearing the mace and the mayor, councillors and official guests. The service will begin with a simple act of remembrance but from then on will become a celebration with a band, pipers and a children’s choir. The mayor will address the congregation on the part veterans play in the community.
A list is being compiled of veterans who are prepared to visit schools and talk to the children; schools will be asked to invite a veteran during May.
Fliers will be delivered to all shops and businesses asking them to show their support by displaying it. It is hoped many shops will offer a discount to anyone wearing a veterans badge on 27 June.
