CoCA’s 19th Annual Juried Exhibition: HYBRID
December 8 thru January 14
Opening Reception: Thursday, December 11, 5pm-10pm
featuring performances by Iyeoka and Seattle’s National Poetry Slam Team Champions
The elements of the world we live in are increasingly becoming synthesized, mixed and reorganized. New ideas are being combined with existing ones. From cars to food, politics and religion, biochemistry, new technologies and art, we are all experiencing the hybrid.
CoCA has presented the Annual since 1989, each time bringing in an independent juror to select and curate the works. This year's juror is Riko Nakasone, director and curator of the Bau-Xi Gallery in Vancouver, BC.
Join us at CoCA: Ballard on December 11th for a reception with the artists, juror, Seattle’s National Poetry Slam team, and Iyeoka Ivie Okoawo. Iyeoka is one of the most sought after performance poets in the country and a recipient of the 2008 National Performance Network/NCCC Artist of Color Residency Award.
Hosted by Matt Gano, Seattle’s 2008 “Grand Slam Champion”. Gano will perform alongside Wanbli, a member of the Seattle National Poetry Slam team, and Deamond Arrindel, Seattle Poetry Slam Executive Director/Slammaster and five time Seattle National Poetry Slam team coach.
Live music provided by DJ Tommy Long and DJ Snake Roberts. Free admission. Full cash bar available w/ID for guests 21+.
CoCA serves the Pacific Northwest as a catalyst and forum for the advancement, development, and understanding of contemporary art. CoCA is 501(c)3 organization and relies on your support for our program development.
