A masterful teacher can open your mind, get your creativity flowing, inspire you and reignite the zest for your music if you find yourself stuck in a rut. Known for his ground breaking bass work with diverse world fusion groups such as fusion guitarist John McLaughlin, Billy Cobham and Garajmahal, bassist Kai Eckhardt's career spans over three decades. As a teacher and educator Kai frequently teaches clinics world wide, such as BIT in Hollywood, the Anton Bruckner Conservatory in Austria, the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, just to name a few.
Kai will showcase essential principles of music and teach their practical application. He will talk about the dos and dont's of music making, as well as about choice and restriction in playing the instrument. 'I consider myself an observer, a doer and a translator. My clinic is conducted in a non-competitive way and it will naturally inspire each of you according to who you are', says Kai about his teaching style.
Of special interest to bassists, this class is open to all instrumentalists, as the principles taught in this seminar are applicable to music making across the board. Lurkers are also welcome. It is recommended that instrumentalists bring their 'axe' or 'horn', as there will be ample opportunity to interact and play together. Keys, drums, mikes and amplifiers are provided.
'Kai is a true Master of Music', says Step Up Music Founder Ariane Cap. 'I have been fortunate to call him my teacher, mentor and friend for many years. I would like our students and anyone interested to experience his mind blowing and heart opening approach to playing music.'
Kai will conclude the evening with an eclectic concert of solo bass at 8.30 pm.
