Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during the project life cycle. It uses three dimensional and dynamic building modelling software which can be linked to evaluation tools and utilises external databases such as cost estimation, energy and comfort simulation, building maintenance, etc. This improves productivity in the building design and construction process and enhances possibilities to evaluate and manage the lifecycle costs and environmental impacts of the building.

In view of the recent global proliferation of BIM and related changes in processes, roles and practices, the Salford Centre for Research and Innovation (SCRI) will stage a series of BIM focused events. The first SCRI Forum will focus on benefits achievable through client pushed BIM initiative. Presenters include:

- Ryder Architecture, a leading design office in the UK for using BIM in practice, including the Manchester Library project, will present on how to serve the owner through BIM

- BIM expert Arto Kiviniemi, University of Salford, School of the Built Environment (SOBE), presents how the owner can define design and life cycle information requirements for BIM based processes.

- Ole Kristian Kvarsvik of Statsbygg; Norwegian governmental building owner presents their BIM policy and the National Museum competition involving 237 companies using varied BIM applications

- Additional presenters will discuss the achievable benefits of Client pushed BIM, including certainty of outcomes with trust buy in and enhanced value.
