The International Association of Nanotechnology (IANANO) will host a forum focusing on the research and development efforts at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), as well as intellectual property law within the clean tech and nanotech industries on Tuesday, November 20, 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m., at the IANANO Corporate Offices, 1290 Parkmoor Ave., San Jose.
Scott Elrod, Manager of the Hardware System Laboratory at PARC, will speak about his organization’s approach to the development of clean technologies such as solar, water purification and the management of energy distribution. PARC’s Clean Tech Initiative will also be highlighted: The initiative addresses renewable energy systems, sustainable development in emerging markets and green buildings.
Founded in 1970 as part of Xerox Research, then incorporated in 2002 as an independent research business, PARC is celebrated for such innovations as laser printing, distributed computer and Ethernet, the graphical user interface (GUI), object-oriented programming and ubiquitous computing. PARC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox Corporation.
Santa Clara-based attorney Eric J. Sidebotham will also discuss intellectual property laws and patent infringement as it relates to the commercialization of emerging technologies. Sidebotham, founder and principal of EJS-Law, is a seasoned IP attorney, adept in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret disputes.
