Yoon Shim-dok, a pioneering singer and independence activist in the 1920s – exemplifies Korean strength in an era of Japanese imperialism, but her forlrn love affair with the scion of a prominent Korean family becomes a fatal vulnerability. Kim Ho-sun directs this passionate and tragic biopic, for which he won the 1992 Grand Bell Award for Best Director.
