Now in its sixth year, The Big Read program encourages students and adults alike at ten suburban libraries to read the same book with the goal of promoting reading, sparking discussion and building community. The 2010 choice for The Big Read is the bestselling novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett. The book captures life in the south in 1962 during Americas Civil Rights Movement, the same year the film To Kill A Mockingbird was released. In honor of The Help, Classic Cinemas Tivoli Theatre and the Downers Grove Library will be featuring To Kill A Mockingbird, based on the classic novel by Harper Lee, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $4 per person and can be purchased one week in advance at the Tivoli Theatre Box Office, located at 5021 Highland Avenue in Downers Grove, or by calling (630) 968-0219. Come early for preshow music by David Rhodes on the mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ at the historic Tivoli Theatre. To Kill A Mockingbird is a drama narrated by Kim Stanley and stars Gregory Peck as lawyer Atticus Finch. Finch defends a young black man who is accused of raping a white woman in this tale of prejudice and injustice. Immediately following the movie, guests are invited to stay for a discussion lead by Indian Prarie Public Librarys Debbie Wordinger.
