'What do you get if you cross ARTIC MONKEYS' underground ethos with the brilliance of THE ARCADE FIRE? Answer: your mind blown away by CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH.' (NME)
Things can be so simple sometimes. Their name is CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH. Their debut was given the name 'Clap Your Hands Say Yeah'... and they also christened their label Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Welcome to the simple, but none the less intriguing, world of CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH. Their name is derived from graffiti seen on a wall in Brooklyn by one of the members. Their story has parallels with another success story, namely that of The Artic Monkeys: a band who broke through in a big way thanks to word-of-mouth and mainly via internet - without any record company support worth mentioning. So also with CYHSY. The band released their debut themselves and received excellent reviews via influential music sites (think www.pitchforkmedia.com or www.insound.com). Result: their live shows always sold-out in advance and their debut has already sold more than 25,000 copies. Singer Alec Ounsworth's voice is often compared with that of David Byrne in early Talking Heads days. Their music is also, without too much ado, a wink to the New Wave of the '80's, but with a big enough dose of own identity to go a long way. David Bowie and The Arcade Fire are already fans.
Opener will be Dr. Dog from Philadelphia. Their debut 'Easy Beat' was released recently on the quality label Rough Trade (see also: Sufjan Stevens, Belle & Sebastian,...) and the influences of the likes of The Beach Boys to The Hollies and The Band shine through.
