The second Tuesday of each month, social changemakers and web innovators get together to network, socialize and share ideas at Net Tuesday, an event produced by NetSquared, http://www.netsquared.org, a project of TechSoup, http://www.techsoup.org.
This month our three presenters will be Katy Newton and Sean Connelley, producers of Not Just a Number for The Oakland Tribune, and their web affiliate insidebayarea.com, and Anne-Christine d'Adesky, Director of Global Advocacy for World Pulse Magazine’s PulseWire,
Not Just a Number, http://www.njnstories.org, is a community journalism project focused on the topic of violence and violence prevention, produced for The Oakland Tribune and their web affiliate insidebayarea.com. Last year Oakland's homicide rate reached a five-year high of 148 people. NJN was created to give Oakland a place to share stories and to connect and develop solutions by utilizing a variety of new media journalism tools and interactive web based technologies.
PulseWire, http://www.pulsewire.net is an interactive website where women worldwide — even those using Internet cafés and cell phones in remote villages — can speak for themselves to the world and collaborate to solve global problems. It is also a new space inviting men to support and learn from women's voices.
PulseWire is a tool designed by and for diverse users: a Sri Lankan market woman looking for new sources of micro-credit, a Zimbabwean journalist documenting a crackdown in the streets with her cell phone, or a New York business woman offering to bring school supplies to women's groups in Cambodia.
