To mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of Cinema 12 at 100 Besinger Drive in Carpentersville, IL, Classic Cinemas will be showcasing a “Blast from the Past” series of movies. In 1970, the cinema opened with two auditoriums. When Classic Cinemas began operation in 1990, the theatre had grown to five screens. In the subsequent years and through several additions, the theatre has expanded to today’s 12 screens. The original auditorium still seats nearly 500 but its shadowbox screen has been replaced with a BIG 50 ft. screen, one of the largest in the area. The “Blast from the Past” movie series will be presented on Saturdays and Sundays beginning April 10th and continue through April 25, 2010.
The following weekend on Saturday, April 17th at noon and Sunday, April 18th at 7:30 p.m., Cinema 12 is showcasing The Godfather. This brilliantly made film, written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, tells the story of an aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty and how he transfers control of his empire over to his reluctant son.
