War Resister: Hero or Traitor?
An estimated 700 U.S. soldiers have taken refuge in Canada since the invasion of Iraq began in 2003. These are soldiers who love their country, but vehemently oppose this war. They put down their guns, refused to fight, and fled to Canada to start new lives. They have sacrificed family, friends, homes, community and jobs in order to exercise their consciences.
Canada has been a safe haven for these soldiers but now has begun to deport them back to the U.S., where they face court marshals or prison sentences.
Come and hear Iraq war resister and 17 year military veteran Chief Petty Officer Chuck Wiley as he tells his personal experiences of the war and the military, his decision to come to Canada, and what you can do to help him stay.
September 13th is a pan-Canadian Day of Action to support U.S. Iraq war resisters and to demand that the Harper government immediately stop their deportations.
Co-sponsors for this event are War Resisters Support Campaign, CANDIL and Project Ploughshares Calgary
