Christmas Light Switch on November 28, 2008

Starting at 6pm in the Market Square, the event which usually sees the Square jam-packed with young and old, heralds the start of the town's Christmas festivities.

The switch-on will see thousands of bulbs spring into life throughout the town centre, and will follow a traditional ceremony of carols, music and greetings from the children of Anstey Junior School, Alton Operatic & Dramatic Society with Alton Choral Society, Holybourne Youth Theatre, Alton Concert Orchestra and the Town Mayor's Chaplain. Town Crier Stan Whitcher will introduce Alton's favourite DJ Paul Le Feuvre who will ensure that the proceedings run smoothly and Town Mayor Cllr Atul Patel will be flicking the big switch to set the town alight, assisted by Santa himself, who is due to arrive in a vintage motor-car, taking time-off from grooming his reindeer.
