Two of the world's most celebrate classical musicians - violinist Christian Tetzlaff and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes - share the stage for an evening of works by Brahms, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Janacek.
The complete program for the concert will be: Janacek's "Sonata for Violin and Piano"; Brahms' "Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Opus 108"; Mozart's "Sonata in F Major for Violin and Piano, K. 377"; and Schubert's "Rondo Brillant in B minor for Violin and Piano, D. 895."
Born in Hamburg in 1966, Tetzlaff has long been in demand as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras. His 2008-09 season includes a performance of Brahms' Violin Concerto with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at Carnegie Hall; the North American premiere of Mark Anthony Turnage's violin concerto "Mambo, Blues and Tarantella" with the Toronto Symphony; and the North American debut of the Tetzlaff Quartet.
Internationally acclaimed Norwegian pianist Andsnes has been performing regularly in the world's most famous concert halls since he first attracted international attention in the early 1990s. His current season features performances of the Rachmaninoff Third in Tokyo, Washington, Stockholm, Hamburg and London, where the piece will be recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra. The New York Times has described Andsnes as "the most accomplished pianist of the new generation."
SFP presented Tetzlaff and Andsnes in their San Francisco debuts in a joint recital in 1994, and they returned in 2002. Andsnes appeared in solo recital in 1997 and 2003, and with tenor Ian Bostridge in 2004.
