Chris Chappell Paintings and Drawerings October 27, 2007

Chris Chappell is the co-founder of the Austin Figurative Project and Gallery. He was with the legendary ArtHive back in the day. His paintings are wonderfully careless. I'm constantly motivated to be a better painter by looking at his work. He finds possibilities with paint where there really should be none. He's also a stunt sketcher. When he's stopped at a red light he whips out his sketchbook and draws the intersection. Sometimes he even makes paintings from those lightning-fast short-hand drawerings. And those paintings will make you cry little tears. Soy tears.
His wonderful daughter has an unusual relationship with snails and starfish.
