A concert presented by Leszek Bartkiewicz in celebration of the 200th birthday anniversary of Fryderyck Chopin, including a candlelit dinner reception with wine, coffee and dessert, as well as, a violin performance by Harry Hovakimian.
Bartkiewicz, a native of Bielsko-Biala, Poland began playing piano at age of six. As a small child, he was accepted into the Chopin Academy in Krakow and later graduated with highest honors from the prestigious National Music Academy of Krakow. After immigrating to the United States in 1981, Bartkiewicz completed his doctoral studies in piano performance at the University of Michigan.
Throughout his career, Bartkiewicz has performed around the world in places such as Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Japan and the United States. In addition, he is the recipient of numerous awards including First Prize at the International Piano Competition in Lugano, Switzerland and the Concerto Competition at the University Of Michigan School Of Music. Currently, he teaches piano at Macomb Community College and is the Music Director of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion, Michigan.
Chopiniana 2010 is a continuation of Mrs. Noreen Smialek-Sinclair's annual Chopiniana concert. "Sadly, Mrs. Smialek-Sinclair is no longer with us," says Barbara Lisiecki, organizer of Chopiniana 2010. "It would be wonderful to honor her memory by continuing a beautiful tradition that began with her."
