Award winning author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni will kick off the Sunnyvale Library?s California Stories Uncovered program on April 6th with an author talk and readings. Former Sunnyvale resident Divakaruni is the author of Mistress of Spices, Sister of My Heart, Arranged Marriage, The Conch Bearer, and most recently, Queen of Dreams.
Both a novelist and an award winning poet, Divakaruni now teaches at the University of Houston. She is also a co-founder and past president of MAITRI, a helpline for South Asian women. Ms. Divakaruni is one of the editors of an anthology of stories entitled California Uncovered: Stories for the 21st Century, the centerpiece of a grant from the California Council for the Humanities. The grant will underwrite several events at the Library including her talk, two book discussions, and a multigenerational oral history project.
