“Chiseling Small Cracks in a Cement Wall:
Covering the White House in the Age of Obama, Twitter, and the Permanent Campaign”
Join Scott Wilson, White House Correspondent for the Washington Post, as he discusses covering one of the most competitive, important and exciting beats in journalism – the presidency. Wilson will describe the difficulties in covering such a closed institution and a private president and examine how the White House media operation has changed to an in-house machine in service of the president, his campaign for re-election, and his agenda for the next four years.
Scott Wilson will also examine the dizzying array of modern mass media, and how White House journalists are challenged by competing imperatives of speed and spice in this hyper-competitive Internet age, reigning in news that is fast-moving, staged, and often superficial, and yielding even-handed analysis of the presidency.
Scott Wilson is the Winner of the 2011 Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency.
A reception will follow the program. Free Admission. Open Seating. Free parking
