Chirgilchin with the Lian Ensemble October 31, 2009

This promises to be a truly remarkable night. Chigilchin is always amazing to see, but having them perform with the Liam Ensemble is going to be magic. Eight performers will fill the Outpost stage and space with amazing sound. This show is guaranteed to sell out!

Chirgilchin has wow'ed Albuquerque repeatedly with their otherworldly vocal techniques. Atmospheric and mesmeric, "throat singing" is almost too difficult to describe in words. It must be heard to be believed—the music, produced by resonating low sounds in the throat, creates a middle note and a haunting, flute-like harmonic. Chirgilchin (meaning "mirage" or "miracle") is a group of musicians from Tuva, a small Russian province north of Western Mongolia. Singing the ancient folk songs in the Tuvan language, the group also plays hand made instruments.

The Los Angeles-based Lian Ensemble is a group of virtuoso performers and composers whose powerful compositions fuse the Mystical Persian musical heritage with the contemporary sensibilities of jazz. Combining a unique musical vision with dauntless dedication to experimentation, they create a synthesis of mystical world music composed of traditional and folk melodies and instruments.
