Teance Fine Teas in Berkeley is hosting an exciting Chinese New Year celebration for the whole family!

When: Saturday, Jan. 31, 1-6 p.m.
1:15 pm: Children's Story Telling & Lucky Candy Distribution
From traditional New Year's tales, to cliffhangers to little known tea stories, have your children experience a custom enjoyed in street fairs all across Asia during Chinese New Year celebrations. Lucky candies distributed at the end.
2 pm: Traditional Lion Dance, featuring Kei Lun Martial Arts
One of the most important Chinese traditions for the New Year, the lions scare away evil spirits and bad luck, and bring in good fortune and optimism. Bring your kids as the lions will astound with acrobatic feats and theater!
3 pm: Martial Arts Demonstration
Traditionally, martial arts, or kung fu, is practiced to promote health, longevity, and warding off the occasional mugger. Demonstrations include two person sparring set, tai chi sword form, master demonstration, and more!
4 pm: Classical Chinese Music, featuring the Chinese Music Orchestra from the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery
4:30 - 6 pm: Fortune Telling for the Year of the Ox
It is customary for the Chinese to visit one's local temple during the New Year period to pay homage to the dieties, offer some incense and other items, and then ask for a fortune told for the year. Topics may include career, business, romance, health, or family. Come in for a Taoist reading upstairs at the tea room for fun and fortune! (results NOT guaranteed)
