Friday Nights at the de Young: Cultural Encounters
Chihuly Installation Lighting, Discarded to Divine, and the de Young Poetry Series
Friday, April 4, 2008, 5:00–8:45 pm

Experience the lighting of Dale Chihuly’s outdoor installation; the fashion event “Discarded to Divine”; and the de Young Poetry Series at Friday Nights at the de Young on April 4. In honor of the de Young’s summer exhibition, Chihuly at the de Young, opening June 14, 2008, Chihuly has designed a 40-foot neon tower for the museum’s Pool of Enchantment. Don’t miss the first evening lighting of the installation at 8:30 pm on April 4. The night also features, “Discarded to Divine: Recycled Fashions,” an event in which Bay Area fashion designers and students debut one-of-a-kind designs from recycled materials. The event benefits the St. Vincent de Paul Society. There will be music by Von Iva and DJ Omar, presented by Noise Pop, in Wilsey Court from 6:30–8:30 pm. The de Young Poetry Series re-launches on April 4. In celebration of the recently published anthology Black Dog, Black Night: Contemporary Vietnamese Poetry, three Vietnamese-American contributors, Nguyen Do, Hoa Nguyen, and Truong Tran will read their poetry in the de Young’s Koret Auditorium (7–8:30 pm). Tickets for the de Young Poetry Series are sold separately and do not include museum admission. On Friday nights the entire museum stays open until 8:45 pm and visitors can enjoy cocktails in Wilsey Court and dinner, drinks, and appetizers in the de Young Café.

Regular gallery admission prices apply on Friday nights. Admission includes access to all festivities including live music and interactive art projects. Tickets for the de Young Poetry Series are sold separately and priced at $8 ($12 FAMSF Members). Museum admission is not included or required with Poetry Series tickets.
