CSO Music Director Riccardo Muti returns to open the 2012/13 subscription concert series with a program that launches a season-long focus on the legacy and influence of Richard Wagner. Opening the performance is Dvorak's Fifth Symphony--the composer performed as a violist under Wagner early in his career, and Wagner remained a large influence in his life, even though his later writings took a distinctly different path. Also on the program are Martucci's rarely heard Notturno and Respighi's celebration of Italian culture and lively festivals, Feste romane.
