CHRP’s annual JUBALEE gala benefit, which commemorates the legacy of William Henry Lane (called “Juba”), begins with a buffet reception on the Jay Pritzker Pavilion stage at 5:30 p.m., followed by the opening night performance of Global Rhythms, featuring the Chicago debut of Step Afrika!, at the Harris Theater. The event also includes silent and live auctions, a raffle and a post-performance reception for sponsors and VIPs. Highlighting the evening is the presentation of the JUBA Award to JAM Theatricals Co-Founder and President Arny Granat and CHRP Founder and Director Lane Alexander. Students from CHRP’s after-school residency program will join Step Afrika! on stage to perform a stepping routine they learned at this year’s Rhythm World, CHRP’s 19th annual summer festival of tap and contemporary percussive art. Mayor and Mrs. Richard M. Daley are Honorary Co-Chairs; Donna LaPietra and Bill Kurtis, Marilyn and Duke Miglin, and Irene Michaels and Arny Granat serve as co-chairs.
