According to Billboard chart statistics, Chicago is second only to the Beach Boys as the most successful American rock band of all time, in terms of both albums and singles.
One of the few major rock bands that has never broken up or even taken an extended hiatus, Chicago remains active four decades after its founding. Four of the six original members (major songwriters Robert Lamm and James Pankow, as well as Lee Loughnane and Walt Parazaider) continue to tour, providing continuity for the group’s sound. Rounding out Chicago are Bill Champlin, 25+ years with the band, Jason Scheff, 20+ years, Tris Imboden, 15 years, and Keith Howland, 11. The current band lineup has been in place longer than any other in Chicago’s history.
Joining Chicago is one of the most popular California pop/rock bands of the '70s the Doobie Brothers evolved from a mellow, post-hippie boogie band to a slick, soul-inflected pop band by the end of the decade. Along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums, as well as a number of radio hits including "Listen to the Music," "Black Water," and "China Grove."
